GHOST TOWN NAMESAKE: Steins, New Mexico
Steins Post office was established in 1888. Steins was first named Doubtful Canyon due to the constant threat of Indians. In 1873, a battle in the canyon between the Apache Indians and the cavalry led to the death of Captain Enoch Steins. Afterwards, it was called Steins Pass.
